Sept. 6, 2017: Two Significant Solar Flares Imaged by NASA’s SDO

Od 4. 9. 2017 probíhala velká série slunečních erupcí, kterou NASA popisuje jako největší v tomto slunečním cyklu: „…two X flares on September 6, 2017. The second was an X9.3 flare — the largest of the solar cycle…“.

„Sleduji vzplanutí slunečních skvrn, pořád se tam něco děje, už asi od roku 2000. Ohromné množství výronů… Ale nikdy jsem neviděl něco tak obzvláštního jako toto. Něco významného se muselo s naším Sluncem stát. Nyní je sluneční skvrna 2673 na odvrácené straně Slunce.“

NASA SDO Spots X8.2-Class Solar Flare, Sept. 10, 2017

This video shows the Sept. 10, 2017, X8.2-class solar flare as observed by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. The video shows a blend of light from the 171- and 304-angstrom wavelengths.

The static at about 24 seconds into the video is caused by particles from the Sun striking the instrument.

National Geographic: Watch the Sun Blast Out the Biggest Solar Flare in a Decade

The most massive solar flare in over a decade erupted from the sun on September 6, following a smaller, but still intense burst. In addition to a blast of radiation that hit Earth within minutes, a wave of charged particles called a coronal mass ejection has been predicted to hit today, which could affect satellites, GPS, and power grids. More blasts of a smaller magnitude followed yesterday.
